Tuesday, February 17, 2009 By MICHAELANGELO CONTE JOURNAL STAFF WRITER
A Jersey City man entered his ex-girlfriend's Jersey City Heights home through a window early Sunday and took a swipe at her with a kitchen knife before being arrested on multiple charges by responding officers, officials said.
Jonathan Cruz, 19, of Palisade Avenue near Bowers Street, was arrested around 5:30 a.m. and charged with domestic violence, aggravated assault, burglary and weapons offenses, reports said.
Police responded to the home of the 23-year-old victim and she told them Cruz got in through a porch window, reports said.
She said he grabbed a 4-inch kitchen knife from the counter and as she tried to get it away from him, he took a swipe at her and cut her elbow, reports said.
The victim, who refused medical attention, called police and arriving officers arrested Cruz and took him to the North District Station, reports said.
Cruz injured himself by banging his head against the holding pen and was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center for evaluation, reports said.
