Arrested after heist, chase
Wednesday, January 21, 2009 A Jersey City man threw a buttered roll at a grocery store clerk before being chased down by police who arrested him on multiple charges on Monday, officials said. David King, 32, was charged with robbery, resisting arrest, obstructing a government function and possession of suspected cocaine, reports said. Responding to a robbery in progress at 4:30 p.m. at the grocery store at Montgomery and Florence streets, police saw King running and chased him down in the Montgomery Gardens housing complex, reports said. A search of King turned up a vial of suspected cocaine, reports said. Cops brought King back to the store, where the victim told police King came in and said, "'It's my birthday, what are you giving me for free?'" reports said. The 26-year-old store clerk said he told King he wasn't giving him anything free, reports said. That's when King told the clerk he had a knife and threatened to stab him and picked up a butter roll and flung it at the clerk, reports said. As King chased the clerk around the counter, the clerk called 911, reports said. MICHAELANGELO CONTE
