A Jersey City man shot in the gut Monday afternoon told cops he was caught in the crossfire between two rival groups, reports said.

The 20-year-old Clerk Street resident was shot at a parking lot at Belmont Avenue near Monticello Avenue at around 5 p.m., police said.

The victim told police he was standing between six persons who were arguing, when they opened fire, reports said.

He heard a couple of shots and realized he was shot in his lower left abdomen, police said.

Investigators found six shell casings and a bullet in the area, and a Volvo with its sunroof shattered.

The victim was treated for two non-life threatening bullet wounds at the Jersey City Medical Center, reports said.

Doctors did not know if the wounds were from separate bullets or from one, which entered and exited the victim's body.
