A Jersey City man was shot in the stomach after an argument on the street near his home Sunday night, officials said yesterday.
Hospital officials called police after the 37-year-old man walked into the Jersey City Medical Center emergency room for treatment at 8 p.m., reports said.
He told investigators he got into an argument with a man at Monticello and Gardner avenues at 7 p.m., reports said.
When he started to walk away, the gunman struck him on the back of the head and then shot him once in the lower right side of his abdomen, reports said, adding that he got a ride to the hospital.
He described the gunman as being 24 to 27 years old, weighing about 180 pounds and wearing a black "hoodie" and blue jeans, reports said. The pistol was a silver semiautomatic, reports said.
A spokesman for the Medical Center said the victim was treated at the hospital and released.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Jersey City Police Department tip line at (201) 547-JAIL.
