Nab 2 teens in stolen car
Tuesday, October 28, 2008 By MICHAELANGELO CONTE JOURNAL STAFF WRITER
Two teenage boys were charged with receiving stolen property yesterday after police spotted them driving around in a car that was stolen at gunpoint Sunday night in a Jersey City housing complex, reports said.
Shortly after midnight, police spotted the 1999 Oldsmobile Alero at Claremont and Bergen avenues and arrested the 16-year-old and 17-year-old, reports said.
Two teenage girls, ages 14 and 18, who were in the back seat, were allowed to go home, reports said.
On Sunday at 11:23 p.m., police responded on a carjacking call to Lafayette Gardens where the 25-year-old victim said he was at Ash and Halladay streets when a teenager pointed a gun at him and demanded his car keys, reports said.
The boy then drove away in the victim's car, reports said.
The arresting officers determined both boys knew they were in a stolen car but the two girls did not, reports said.
After the boys were arrested, the victim came to the Juvenile Bureau, but he could not identify either boy as the carjacker, reports said.
