Jersey City police arrested two juveniles in separate incidents and charged them with having illegal handguns, officials said.
Police doing surveillance in a high crime area of Brinkerhoff Street at 1:08 a.m. yesterday saw a 17-year-old Belmont Avenue boy walking down Monticello Avenue and repeatedly reaching into his waistband, reports said.
They watched as he walked up to a residence on Brinkerhoff, took a small silver handgun out of his waistband and put it in a flower pot on the front steps, reports said. The officers stopped the boy as he was walking back from his home and they recovered the gun, reports said.
At 7:29 p.m. last Thursday, police received a call from a Dales Avenue woman who said she found a gun in her 16-year-old son's room, reports said. Police responded and found the .357 caliber revolver hidden behind a dresser drawer and arrested the boy on the charge of unlawful possession of a weapon, reports said.
