A few, maybe 7-8 months back I saw this story on the news about an illegal immigrant roundup in a suberb of Boston one afternoon. What the agents neglected to take into account was that of the over 500 people they arrested, most of them were parents with children in school and after school that day many children were left alone. I searched in vain for a follow up story but as it was a quick news clip, I didn't catch which town it was. I've always wondered, what happend??

491 arrests in May of illegal immigrants sets a record

Thursday, June 05, 2008

Arrests of illegal immigrants in Jersey City, Bayonne and Kearny were among 491 made by immigration agents in a roundup throughout New Jersey and New York in May, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement spokesman Harold Ort said yesterday.

Officials said that's the single largest number of arrests in a month in the region since the agency began targeting immigration violators in 2003. ICE officials said 251 were in New Jersey and 240 were in New York, and that 347 had outstanding deportation orders, while 207 had criminal records.

The month-long operation was part of a six-state sweep that netted 1,800 immigrants with criminal records, outstanding deportation orders or other violations.
