Students at the Jersey City Arts High School have been selected to perform in the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland next summer, winning out among 1,600 schools nominated nationwide.
The theater group will perform as part of the festival's American High School Theatre Festival in August 2009.
The theater department at the Jersey City Arts High School, which takes students from city schools and gives them intensive course work in the arts, has been nominated for best play by the North Jersey Metro Cappies for its performance of "Fires in the Mirror," a play written by Anna Deavere Smith about the 1991 Crown Heights race riots in Brooklyn.
