Senator: Get kids' shots for free Tuesday, August 07, 2007 By JARRETT RENSHAW JOURNAL STAFF WRITER
New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez of Hoboken was in Jersey City yesterday to urge parents to take advantage of free children's immunizations scheduled later this month in Hudson County.
The free immunizations will take place Aug. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the two Metropolitan Family Health Network locations in Hudson County - 935 Garfield Ave. in Jersey City and 5300 Bergenline Ave. in West New York.
The locations are federally qualified health centers, which serve as primary care centers for uninsured families.
Menendez noted that while all schools require children to be immunized before they enter, that's not necessarily early enough, and he urged families to take advantage of the opportunity.
"We need to get them immunized even earlier," Menendez said yesterday at the Garfield Avenue facility. "We save precious time and improve the quality of our lives."
Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy and Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise were also in attendance.
