Cops: Jersey City man with bullet in neck drives self to hospital

A Jersey City man with a gunshot wound drove to the hospital this morning after his car was riddled with bullets, police reports said.

Police were called to Westervelt Place and Cornelison Avenue at 1:36 a.m. where residents said they heard a couple of shots being fired, reports said.

Police then went to the Jersey City Medical Center emergency room where they talked to a 33-year-old Communipaw Avenue resident who said he was driving along Cornelison Avenue when two men walked up to his car an opened fire, reports said.

The injured driver accelerated away with three windows blown from the shots, police said.

Police inspected the car that was parked outside the emergency room, and found what appeared to be damage from several bullets to the headrest, right panel, metal trim and dashboard, reports said.

The victim was treated for an injury in the upper right shoulder, police said.

A CAT scan showed the bullet entered his right shoulder, broke a rib and traveled up through his neck to his jaw, reports said.

He was listed in a stable condition, reports said.

The victim's 20-year-old passenger was uninjured, reports said.
