"We're very happy that this miscreant who has been preying on our most vulnerable citizens - our seniors - has been apprehended by the great efforts of the Jersey City Police Department," said Mayor Jerramiah Healy.

Isn't it what our Dept. of Ed dude, McCain do to secure enough votes for the election ?

Scary thing is, I can actually decode this.

TWISTED 'ROBBER' NABBED
Targeted seniors: cops

A Jersey City man has been charged with three vicious robberies in the senior citizens building on Kennedy Boulevard, where he had been staying with a relative, police said yesterday.

"We're very happy that this miscreant who has been preying on our most vulnerable citizens - our seniors - has been apprehended by the great efforts of the Jersey City Police Department," said Mayor Jerramiah Healy.

Alexander Demetroudis, 34, was arrested Thursday and charged with aggravated assault and three counts each of robbery and burglary. The victims ranged in age from 64 to 86 years old and had to be treated at area hospitals, Lt. Edgar Martinez said.

The first incident at the building, near St. Pauls Avenue, began early in the morning of Aug. 13 when the robber broke down the apartment door of an 86-year-old man and his 80-year-old wife, reports said.

The robber grabbed the woman by the face and threw her to the floor, breaking her right hand and wrist, reports said; her handicapped husband tried to help but fell.

As he yelled, "Give me any money you have," the robber followed the woman into a bedroom, where she took $200 from a drawer and gave it to him before he fled, police said.

At 9 p.m. on Sept. 25, a robber kicked down the door of a 64-year-old woman and punched her in the face twice, reports said, causing swelling and temporary loss of sight. She took $80 from her purse and handed it over to her attacker, reports said.

During the last incident, on Wednesday, the robber knocked on the door of an 85-year-old woman, who opened the door a crack and left the security chain attached, reports said. He kicked the door in and broke the chain, police said.

He then pushed the woman to the floor and her face struck a baby stroller as she fell, reports said, adding that she fractured her femur in the fall. The robber ransacked the apartment while repeatedly shouting "Where's the money?" but it's not clear if he found anything, reports said.

Police would provide little information about the investigation other than to say that the victims all picked Demetroudis in a photo lineup and then identified him in person as their attacker, Martinez said.

Demetroudis was in jail from June 24, 1994 to June 26, 1996 for providing drugs to someone who then died as a result of taking them, corrections officials said.
