I don't know, but it's both hilarious and kind of pathetic that they're calling it "The Mansion".

It does actaullay look like a mansion, so not so far-fetched.

Shame they had to build the new bit on the side, but still way nicer than had it been demolished and some modern thing been built there.

Well done developer, whoever you are.

Robin.

I thought so too, until I did a little research and found it it was a mansion before it was a funeral home.

I was hoping they would be capable of at least a tiny bit of creativity. I'd hate to tell people I live in "The Mansion". It's also going to be subdivided... does that make you think of mansions?

I believe lack of creativity is or was considered more chic. Ever notice that the older buildings on Park, Madison and Fifth Avenues in Manhattan only have number addresses, but those on CPW and Westend, once considered the retreat for the less desirable millionaires, have names.

Also, look at definition 2b.

Judging from the real estate projects in Jersey City over the last decade, there's clearly a market for stunning mediocrity.

Yes, I've noticed the names on the west side. Are any of them "The Building"?

I was pulling for it to be called The Embalment, but I guess that wouldn't have the same marketing power as The Mansion.

I'll bet if the reno had taken place a decade from now it would have been as a single family home and we would be calling it "the Mansion" with no irony.

When I went to school in Pittsburgh 30 odd years ago there was a run down neighborhood of former mansions called Shadyside that were mostly rooming houses for students. Now it's opulent single families again and one of the most desirable parts of town. The mansions of McGinley Sq may have their day again yet!
