Here is a guy who committed suicide because he entered the Capitol. He even called the FBI and turned himself in. He pleaded guilty even though he just took pictures of the Capitol and left. The government decided to charge this non-violent person as a domestic terrorist which could give him some serious prison time. The guy went into a deep depression and committed suicide. What was his real crime? He voted for Donald Trump and the Dems who are in charge considers that to be a crime.

Uh, okay. You got me there. I don't know how to argue with someone who brings up a whole bunch of completely different topics at the same time, or I don't have the energy to do it. If it was a strategy to simply overwhelm me with a bunch of unrelated other things you think our government has done wrong, it has worked.

The two are entirely separate issues and I never even said I didn't have a problem with illegal immigation problems either.

I may well agree with you on some of those illegal immigration issues, but I'm not getting into that, it's entirely separate. Just because I have a different opinion about Ashli Babbitt than you does not mean I might share your opinion on some illegal immigration issues. I mean, really.

The level of ignorance you've displayed has barely made this post responding to. Yes, people could freely enter the Capitol buildings and even the White House to request a meeting with the President at one time. I believe it was when Calvin Coolidge was President was when the Secret Service recommended there be no more public access to the White Hosue. It was necessary, given the numbers of nutcases that approached the place as it became easier to travel to Washington. Times have changed and there are security concerns. I also don't think the Constitution gave people the right to riot at the Capitol building and break in through windows. Just a hunch.

I have no idea why you brought up illegal immigrants, I never even mentioned that.

I sincerely doubt that. Furthermore, as I've already said, Ms. Babbitt went through the window and tried to go somewhere she wasn't supposed to be. You mess with the bull long enough, you get the horns. If she didn't want to get shot, she shouldn't have been there in the first place. Don't want to get shot? Don't commit a crime.

You have pointed out clearly the difference between being a protester and being a criminal. That building was under attack by trespassers (not protesters) who were somewhere they shouldn't be AND who were destroying property in the US Capitol. Disgraceful and imo, treasonous.

What property did Ashli destroy that legimatized her death, in your opinion? If Minnesota decided not to charge the person who started the fire that resulted in death, why is his 7 sentence fair? His actions killed someone, Ashli harmed no one.

Whether she destroyed anything isn't the point. She was, however, trespassing and entering someplace she wasn't supposed to be. At that point, she waived her rights to any safety.

For the sake of discussion, if I break into a store after it's closed at night, do I have the right to my safety? If the owner just happened to be sleeping there, wakes up and then shoots me, is that something that I should not ever expect to happen, because of the rights to safety I think I have when entering a place I'm not supposed to be entering?

Did Ms. Babbitt think she had the right to her safety and not being shot when entering the space she entered, and were her thoughts correct?

Yes, and it's always SO easy for an officer to judge that accurately in just a few seconds, before it is too late. It's a completely realistic policy to follow in every possible law enforcement situation.

Get real.

In all municipalities across the US, a cop is only allowed to discharge his/her gun if the officer's life is threatened, or another life is threatened. Neither of these thresholds happened to warrant shooting anyone from the Capitol police officer. His life was not in danger and Ashli posed no threat. Ashli had no weapons nor told anyone she was going to harm them. By the way, on March 1st, the Truckers will arrive in DC. The mayor in DC has called on the National Guard. Both the mayor and Nancy Pelosi denied Trump's request for the National Guard for Jan. 6th. They are held responsible. And the fact, there was no inquest on the Capitol officer means Nancy did not want Congress to ask questions on why the officer used his gun.

I agree with you 100% about the Seattle protestors in the summer of 2020, they didn't have any right and I certainly didn't call them heroes, and they should consider themselves lucky they didn't get hurt or shot. Ms. Abbitt wasn't so lucky and so she suffered the consequences. I saw the tape. She was climbing the window of a place she wasn't supposed to be going. Some people can get away with something like that - as you've indicated - but she wasn't so lucky. She played with the bull too long and got the horns. Bad luck? Definitely. An injustice? Hell no. Just as I would not consider it an injustice if someone was shot while attacking and burning down a police station. You break the law (violently, or by going somewhere you're not supposed to go), you waive your rights to any real safety.

She had every right to protest but she did NOT have the right to enter the building she entered and climb through a window where there was a barricade and they CLEARLY did not want to allow people to enter. All these other people you name could have just as easily been shot while they were doing what they were doing, they were just lucky it didn't happen.

Once again Yvonne, had Ms. Babbitt not been there and NOT tried to climb through the window, would she have been shot?

Ashli Babbit served her country, yes, but so did Benedict Arnold, and exactly like Benedict Arnold she was a traitor to the United States of America, as were all the "rioters". She got shot. Oh well.

There are no charges, she was not a danger to anyone and the only reason I believe she was shot is because she was up high on someone's shoulder. Before Ashli was shot, she was talking to a reporter and when Ashli turned her head forward, she received a fatal bullet in the neck. The capitol police officer did not offer aid to the victim as required by law, he just disappeared in the crowd. People today have cell phones, and this was recorded. This was an execution.

Obviously whoever conducted the investigation thought differently. Furthermore, I'll ask you again, would this "execution" ever have happened had she not attempted to climb through a window of a place she wasn't supposed to be in the first place?

When you break the law, there are risks that are assumed. Okay, perhaps a 5 year old that steals gum from a convenience store rack still retains some rights to their safety. A grown woman who climbs through a broken window of a government building she knows full well she's not supposed to enter but does it anyway waives all rights to her safety. You don't want to get shot, don't commit a crime in the first place.

But liberals play a double standard.

By the way, why isn't Nancy Pelosi and the mayor of DC held accountable? It came out Trump asked for the National Guard but both of them nixed the idea.

According to what I read, this woman was warned before the officer shot her. But really, she shouldn't have been where she was in the first place. When you go committing a crime this serious, you have waived your right to safety. If you tangle with the bull long enough, you get the horns.

You also mentioned the "black and male" part of it. If she had been black and male, I don't know if there would have been any rioting or burning, but then people would have said "if he had been white, people would be outraged", or "if he had been white, he wouldn't have been shot" or something along those lines. There's always a racial angle with stories like these, whether it truly means anything or not. An officer was doing his job and would have shot the person regardless of their color.

Remember Bernie Goetz and the four men he shot that attempted to mug him on the subway? Different situation perhaps but those men were ultimately committing a crime as well. Whether they all deserved to be shot and whether Darrell Cabey deserved the multiple rounds of lead he got is a subject for debate, but the principle is essentially the same - tangle with the bull long enough and you get the horns. No right to safety when committing a crime or at least a potentially violent and dangerous crime.

Ashli Babbitt was committing a crime when she stormed the Capitol building. It's unfortunate she was killed but that police officer was only doing his job and there were investigations, by both the DC Metropolitan Police Department and the US Department of Justice, both of which found the shooting lawful and within department policy. Ms. Babbitt took the risk of getting killed by doing what she did and unfortunately suffered the consequences. Not only should she not have been climbing through the shattered window into the Capitol building, she should have heeded warnings by police and Secret Service not to climb through it (numerous witnesses that were not law enforcement corrorborate what happened). If one of the armed officers left a loaded gun in a men's room at the Capitol that was extremely reckless and should have been disciplined but has nothing to do with the shooting of Ms. Babbitt.

The cop that killed Ashli Babbitt on Jan. 6 incident, so left a loaded gun in the men's room in the Capitol but nothing happened to him. There was no investigation in either incident.
