Yes, we got our fill of the cruises. We may actually go the fourth time, but stay on Isabela, chill and maybe do some day trips (or not). Isabela feels like it is at the end of the world.

We stayed at a place just opposite Malecon and hiked up to the top of the Barrio....on our way to the Galapagos last October. We considered going through Quito but didn't want to deal with the altitude. We enjoyed Guayaquil.

I enjoyed Guayaquil - a nice blue-collar town that does its best to charm tourists and locals alike with its Malecon. Tough to compete with Quito, but Mr and Ms stillinjc had a good time there.

Thanks all. Got it at La Conga. Too late for skipping the cooking part... ;) Any tips on cooking it right? I am making an Ecuadorian dish atun encebollado which calls for yuca.

If you are so inclined, you can also find yucca and taro and other root vegetables in the frozen aisle in these places, which is conveniently peeled and cut into chunks. It also helps to know the alternative/translated names, as some employees may not recognize one or the other. Yucca is also known as cassava and mandioca, while taro could be referred to as malanga.

Supremo in the Heights definitely has. Take an exciting walk through beautiful SW Hoboken and up the 100 steps! You could even take the HBLR to 2nd st for a shortcut.

I've gotten it at ShopRite and Key Food, but I'm not sure if they have it all the time or only sometimes. They likely have it at La Conga, though you'd need an oxygen mask to enter. A bit more off the beaten path I bet 99 Ranch has it - I know it's an Asian market but their produce section is vast.
