I had something similar back when I was still in IT.
It's a bit too much for a person who just wants to recover a SATA drive. IDE drives haven't been a thing in years. The OP will never use those other interfaces. I haven't needed to address any issues with an IDE drive in at least five years.

If the hard drive doesn't mount anymore, you can use a data recovery program for the Mac called Data Rescue. I've been using it for several years it has been extremely helpful in recovering deleted from hard drives, SD cards, and USB sticks, even if they've been formatted before. Unless the logic board is completely fried on the hard drive, it should be able to read and recover from any partition. I've have best results with photos and documents. Good Luck!

Most likely, your HD is just fine and can be read without issues. If your MBP drive is bad, you usually hear a clicking noise. To rule things out, you can try booting into Recovery Mode. To do so, hold down the Command + R keys on your keyboard *immediately* after turning on your MBP. If it works, you will boot up into the Recovery Mode screen. From there, launch the Disk Utility and run the basic tests on your drive. It will tell you all you need to know. If the drive is good, I would highly recommend the drive enclosure, as it would allow you to then read the drive with the new laptop arriving tomorrow. If that doesn't work, you might be able to boot into Internet Recovery Mode, which is accessed by pressing the Command + Option + R keys. Good luck!

I'm not sure if the HD is still good. This is what happened, my MacBook Pro froze when I was on the web, I did a force quit by pressing and holding down the start button. When I tried to restart a blue/green screen came up with an apple icon I had not seen before and it would go into restart mode again. The HD may be toast at this point.
Thanks for the recommendations, I will see if I can access the HD and do what you reccomended, a new laptop arrives tomorrow.

Data recovery from drives on the fritz can be incredibly expensive and the results can be very disappointing.

My 8 yr old laptop crashed and I need to recover the data. Has anyone had any experience with the data recovery companies in JC or NYC? The data is mainly pictures and some documents. Any idea of time and cost for this? TIA
