jc_dweller, Scott is in VVP all Saturdays, except the last Saturday of each month. I think he's working at a Whole Foods on that day...sharpening away.

Glad the X-Calibur knife guy is still there, I go to see him every summer.
The article above says "For three Saturdays of every month, there will be a knife and scissor sharpener...". Does anyone know WHICH three Saturdays?

Kudos to the knife sharpener in VV. He spent 15 minutes or so sharpening and repairing my expensive knife which was damaged by another knife sharpener. And for an extremely reasonable fee.

Fruit, fish, and flavored butter -- all from the farm Jersey City has at least seven farmer’s markets. In the center of Van Vorst Park, on Jersey Avenue and Montgomery Street, is a market with fish, butters, pickles, tropical fruits like pineapples, vegetables, and more. The 11 to 13 vendors will appear every Saturday until December from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Some farmers accept WIC or senior FMNP. “We have new vendors,” said the President of Van Vorst Park Association Marc Wesson. “We have this company that makes pork sandwiches with figs or cheese. We have another vendor with organic, flavored butters. They’re pretty amazing.” The VVPA is the nonprofit organization that takes care of Van Vorst Park. Wesson said 100 percent of the fees go back into the park. For three Saturdays of every month, there will be a knife and scissor sharpener, according to Wesson. You can find baked goods with organic or vegan products, 14 different types of pickles, fresh juices, and Caribbean sweet potato pie. “And there’s so many nuts,” Wesson added. “We have a fish market with wild fish. It’s all fresh, and that’s unique.” The farmer’s market at Lincoln Park, on West Side and Belmont avenues, runs from June 12 to Oct. 20 every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Find nuts, breads, honey, flowers, eggs, and more from these vendors this summer. Some farmers accept WIC and senior FMNP vouchers. Hamilton Park’s Farmer’s Market is open every Wednesday until December from 3 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. All the vendors surround the gazebo in the park on Eighth Street between West Hamilton and McWilliams Place. WIC and Senior FMNP vouchers are accepted by some farmers. They provide fresh fruit and produce, fresh baked goods, frozen meals, pre-cooked meals, and more. Hamilton Park is easily accessible from the No. 126 NJ Transit bus. It’s also a 10-minute walk from the Grove Street and Newport PATH. From Newport and Harsimus Cove it’s two stops off the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail. At the Grove Street PATH find the Special Improvement District’s Farmer’s Market, every Monday and Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. until Dec. 19, customers can find honeys, truffles, juices, pestos, produce, and more. WIC and Senior FMNP vouchers are accepted by some farmers. The Farmer’s Market at Journal Square is back for its 17th season starting June 22. It’s open every Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. It’s located outside the PATH Center along Kennedy Boulevard at Journal Square, and across from the Loew's Theatre. Enjoy exclusively Jersey Fresh fruits and vegetables. They have more baked goods, pickles, nuts, and frozen Italian foods this year. All farmers are Certified Organic. Some farmers accept WIC and Senior FMNP vouchers. In Riverview-Fisk Park on Bower Street, shoppers can pick up grass-fed meats, baked goods, sauces, jellies, crafts, and more. It’s open every Sunday until October from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visit the Riverview Farmer’s Market website at http://www.riverviewfarmersmarket.org to take a survey for a chance to win a reusable bag full of goodies. Also, $10 will be matched after spending $10 on produce with a Families First, SNAP, or EBT food stamps card. This benefit is available at other Jersey City markets like the Lincoln Park Farmers Market. The Riverview market will feature a season long calendar of events including free kids’ programs, cooking demos, art/dance programs, and a flagship Music in the Park series. Music in the Park will be held every first Sunday of the month through Oct. 30. DJ Pastiche and DJ DeReal Finkin will alternate playing family-friendly tunes every third Sunday of the month throughout the season. Local business Yoga in the Heights will be offering an outdoor yoga class every Sunday at 11 a.m. through the end of September where participants may pay by donation. The Sparrow Hill Farmer’s Market opens in Leonard Gordon Park every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Some farmers accept WIC and Senior FMNP vouchers. Many farm products are New Jersey grown. They have baked goods, flowers, breads, fresh and frozen homemade goods, and more.
