With the high winds last night/this morning the noise was back confirming your theory about it being the wind. The timing of when I first noticed it aligns with the construction of the tower next to gulls cove so it makes sense that it's responsible. It amazes me though that it could be heard so clearly from so far away.

Are you saying that the second Gull's Cove tower is now actively being built!? That's great news for the residents of the first tower. The last I spoke to someone there, they had told me that there was no word on when construction may resume.

It could definitely be time for a LOST re-view. Is it as good the second time around?

Off topic, but it's kind of freaky that you said that. I got my kids hooked on Lost on Netflix. We watched Locke get dragged into a hole by a smoke monster just last night.

Some building features can cause a mechanical howling sound under the right wind and temperature conditions. Up by Journal Square, we get it when there are heavy snowstorms with high winds. The drifts funnel the winds in a way that it causes a sustained metallic hum/howl in the early mornings.

I'm familiar with the sound of the train, this definitely wasn't it. It also wasn't the usual wind gusting that we're prone to. This was a was a continued sustained, howling, mechanical noise that lasted for several hours. It was very strange.

You're probably hearing the freight trains that run through JC.

It sounds like some sort of machine making the noise, maybe there is some kind of emergency crew working or something nearby.

some people call it "wind", other blame the god "notus", although I've only heard him hum.
