Hi Dr. Gupta,

Welcome to JCList. There are a lot of interesting characters on here (and a lot more helpful neighbors, thankfully). If you search in the box in the upper left hand corner, you'll find threads that cover many of the rental areas in Journal Square.

Brunswick Towers is nice, and the apartments (55 Skillman) on Skillman Ave are also nice. If you have time to plan, try to get parking in your rental if you can.

Good luck.

Thanks for telling about 55 Skillman apartment building.

Well he would stay at an extended Hotel/Inn in the area to get a sense of the area and to find a rental that he will be living in for 3 years with his family. There are two Hotels/Inns in the immediate area the one on Newark that iGreg mentioned is far cheaper than the Ramada on Tonnele .

I know the area well many young people (IT geeks) coming to the area do take a room in the extended stay Hotel/Inn for a few weeks and then they find a long term rental in the area. Makes a lot of sense doesn?t it? Scout out a place and then have the family come. He is in Cleveland not too far away so I think he could accomplish the task.

There are large houses with parking for rent in the area that do not advertise. All they have is a small for rent sign in the window. (that?s the way old-timers still do it hoping to get a friend or relative of someone in the area) Hence you have to come to the area and walk around to find them.

In reality mocking or not iGreg?s suggestion was one of the best so far.

Stop with the BS neverleft!

IGREG was mocking ....an being a little more than racist with his comment.

If you go to the original post the writer said:

want to stay Journal Square area, with my family (myself, wife and an infant) for coming 3 years of my fellowship at Columbia.

Looking for a 1 to 2 BR apt for $1400 to $2000. Will need to have Parking, Central air conditioning and walk-able distance to Journal Square path station.

What are some places to rent with above in mind? Few I found:

1. Kennedy Lofts - looks good on website.

2. St. John's Apartment - read lot of bad reviews.

My family will greatly appreciate if you may please take some time in advising us.

Are you mocking iGreg for the way he introduced the hotel or for the hotel itself? That hotel is in the middle of Newark Avenue (heart of Little India) and is a popular hotel with many Indian guests. I am pretty sure I read that they got the ok from the JC planning board to expand up 3 or 4 stories.

What makes you think I'm eligible to vote in the grand electoral college ? - perhaps I'm baboo hot chai wallah.

And the named hotel is noted as bedbug free FYI.

I enjoyed my time living in Brunswick Tower. The car elevator takes a little getting used to, but having the parking, pool and in-apartment washer/dryer is really nice. Skillman Ave is nice as well. It's a good area and convenient to the PATH and shops.

We have a 1000 sqft 2 bedroom at 55 Skillman with a parking space for under 2K. Great building, great location, lots of families. No central air but there is a gym, roof deck, laundry room, live-in super, etc. It's about 3 blocks to Newark Ave where you can catch the 80 bus downtown, or about 8 blocks to JSQ PATH.

I would ignore Pebble's comment, Brunswick Towers also has central air and is walkable to the PATH. The building is mostly owner occupied with rentals coming up all the time.
