A few years ago, a high end microwave oven in my apartment went bad (just stopped working) and the tech that came out had NO CLUE what to do with it (he was employed by an "Kitchen Aid authorized repair company") and had to spend two hours on the phone being talked through a diagnosis and troubleshooting session for which my landlord ended up paying a good amount of money and which called for multiple expensive replacement parts. In the end, it was "cheaper" and better to just buy a new unit.
