(Just saw this comment on the NJ.com page related to the story I pasted below - what is that NEW allegation all about - in bold below? Why don't we know more about THAT - unless I missed something?)

One again, the racial game of smoke and mirrors is being played to cover an incompetent employee who was and rightfully should have been terminated.

Aside from hiring a sex offender to work with children, he kept that employee after it was brought to his attention. Apparently political favors are more important than exposing children to victimization. That's gross incompetence.

Let's not forget the time he reported his city car stolen (with keys) that allegedly crashed into his personal car under VERY suspicious circumstances. Or got his 19 year old son charged as a juvenile for gun possession. He's an embarrassment. Just be gone.

Supporters of Ryan Strother, the Jersey City recreation director who was fired last week after city officials say he hired a registered sex offender, will gather at Van Vorst Park today and march to City Hall to protest his termination.

This clown makes $117K/year - why did I bother going to college for four years and another four part time for a graduate degree?

How was the process bypassed to allow this? Did the candidate have friends in high places to allow a sex offender to get around a background check requirement?

Yes. I'm being told there was a background check but the guy was added to the payroll before it was done and Strother didn't fire him immediately. That's from an admin official ? Strother isn't talking.

Several years ago, when Fulop on still councilman, a young mother spoke before the city council concerning private music teacher who had a sexual assault charge. The mother asked the city council to pass a law requiring a background check for people in the private industry who works with children. I remember Fulop saying he would pass this law. I find it amazing HR in city hall does not require a background check on anyone who works with children. I am not sure if this law passed, but I think it is the roll of government to do background checks, it is not the role of an individual director.

I didn't think the guy was anywhere near qualified for this job anyway. Didn't he used to work on a factory assembly line in the not-too-distant past? Not college educated either, I don't think. Hiring him was just a bad idea from the start.

Wasn't there an issue last year with Hispanic kids getting shut out from summer JC Rec Department jobs or something as well?

Anyone know the name of the pervert that Strother hired? And yes, he should resign over this. Outrageous!
