Psyched to check this out this weekend. Not much to do around here after moving from downtown. Anyone care to make a new thread to hype it?

It is. Been in a few more times (my poor bank account), and they keep adding interesting items - specials of the day. The owner actually came up to me and spoke to me by name to thank me for coming in. Good place.

I can comment on this one. I live around the corner and have been three times now. Great crowd each time, great staff, and great food.

Sounds great!

Haven't been there yet but heard terrific reviews, they have a array of selections on the menu and not just the drip and drab choices of typical bar fare. I also hear their craft beers are wonderful as well.

The new bar has opened. I walked by around 630 last night and there was a decent crowd. Not sure if they have food but I will have to check it out sometime.

Could be another crafty beer bar, or a name of a condo rental building.

It would be easy to conclude that's a decidedly hipsterish name for a bar, if one did not know the name of the street on which the bar is located.

At the north end of Jersey City, Monaghan's Bar at 225 Hutton St. is set to close its doors and taps after 40 years, leaving local patrons without a second home.

"All of my friends come here," said Tim Purcell, 65, a retired Jersey City cop. "We've been coming here for years. We planned golf outings to Myrtle Beach and celebrated St. Patrick's Day."

The largely blue collar neighborhood bar frequented by generations of police officers and firefighters first opened in 1974 on the corner of Hutton Street and Sanford Place by Terry Monaghan, who passed away in 2008. His son Terry Monaghan Jr. continued to run the bar.

I overheard that this long time jc heights watering hole has found a new owner who will reopen it as a bar. I hope this is true. If anyone out there has more info they can offer it is greatly appreciated. I remember they had the coolest tin ceiling.
