Thanks but I promise I know how to lock my bike for city conditions. I have a seat I take off, cables that go through my tires two of them which I then connect to a Kryptonite NY lock. My headlight and taillight are removeable and are not left on the bike. I've had my bike locked up for five years outside my apartment in both downtown and now the Heights. I just wanted to know if I would be able to find bike parking at 8:30 in the morning. Your suggestions are great for folks who do not know how to lock up a bike properly, though.

The covered racks fill up pretty fast in the summer, but you should always be able to find a spot.
Big plus-1 to suggestions of beater bike, sturdy lock/more than one lock, and good locking technique. Those have worked for me - no problems - on a daily basis for the last seven years. One more suggestion: don't leave anything on the bike (i.e. blinky lights, saddle bag, etc). That stuff will disappear. One time I left my rear blinky and someone stole the batteries out of it - left half of the light attached to the bike, and the other half on the ground nearby. You get the idea. Good luck & ride safe!

I agree, no lock will defeat a thief after your nice bike. There's guys around on Craigslist that rebuild/fix up used bikes, I got my son a bike for beating around town this way for $80. My cousin in Chicago does this, so I know at least some of them aren't thieves reselling their booty.

Get a beater bike that you won't miss if it gets robbed. Hopefully you are not traveling far.

Absolute best advice: if you want to have peace of mind, get a Krytptonite chain from the New York series (New York Chain, New York Legend or New York Fahgettaboudit). They are expensive, but you can get discounted prices through Amazon.

I park there almost every day and i am able to find a rack spot every day. you should make sure you have a chain to extend your lock. Don't just lock up your back tire.

I'm starting a new job in the city, and am thinking about riding my bike to the JSQ Path. Does anyone have experience finding bicycle parking there at 8:30 am? Any advice or location suggestions would be great. Thanks.
