Functionality is what it needs to be, but from a design perspective, this thing is such a dumpster fire. The NY Waterway app is a great reference point of where this should be at a minimum.

Another way for Light Rail riders to not pay!

Exactly! How exactly would this work on a light rail system that relies on user honesty?? Already, as it is, tons of people ride the Light Rail without paying, so if you make it so people can use a mobile device to "display" a ticket, how will they prevent fare beaters from not using the app to simply "activate" or "purchase" a ticket once on board if a fare enforcement officer happens to show up?

I suppose this will justify the looming increase of 9.9%. Make it easier to get the bus & train tickets for the buses & trains that are either discontinued or not showing up.

Any word on whether Light Rail tickets are also part of this? The light rail would be so much more useful if one didn't have to deal with asinine paper ticketing.

Larry Higgs | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com

NJ Transit officials have rolled out the next phase of the MyTix app, announcing that commuters can start purchasing monthly passes for all travel starting Tuesday.

With the roll out, commuters can use the mobile app to buy all types of bus tickets sold by NJ Transit, said Nancy Snyder, a spokeswoman. The agency also has upgraded the wifi in the Port Authority Bus Terminal so riders can use their smart phones to access the app and other NJ Transit on line service, she said.

MyTix was expanded in January for the purchase of individual tickets for routes serving Port Authority Bus Terminal, Lower Manhattan and George Washington Bridge.

The mobile app had been rolled out for riders of 59 routes in South Jersey last September. The app was introduced in April 2013 for rail commuters and expanded to cover all rail lines in Dec. 2013.
