Score another point for those (she?) who bemoan the lack of street parking. Had this fellow been able to park a getaway car in front of or at least within a short distance of the bank he might not have been captured and his career not been brought to an abrupt halt.

LOL We don't have to worry about this happening in the Heights! The bus service is so unreliable that you would be apprehended, convicted, and paroled before an 87 bus comes.

I used to bike up to that bank when I was in the area, now that the Heights branch is open late enough I'd rather go there. I predict that cash will be extinct in the near future.

By Ron Zeitlinger | The Jersey Journal

A Bergen Avenue bank was robbed this afternoon and the suspected thief used a public bus as his getaway vehicle, police said in radio transmissions today.

A man fitting the description of the bank robber was taken into custody at Bergen and Bentley avenues a short time after the 12:50 p.m. robbery at Provident Bank in Journal Square, police radio transmissions said.

The man had moments earlier gotten off a bus at Bergen and Gifford avenues when he was spotted by police.

According to police radio transmissions, the man swiped more than $1,000 from the bank, but he dropped some money inside the bank as he made his getaway.

Police also said in radio transmissions that the bank has video cameras and two people inside the bank besides the bank teller said they could identify the man.

Details on the incident were not immediately available.
