It is not the responsibility of taxpayers to support public officials to a standard of living they like.

Getting by and living are two different things, I know a few people also who are in their 50's making 35k and living in JC some dtjc and some in the Journal Square area with a roommate or two and haven't been on a real vacation in years. This is not living, this is surviving and getting by in JC. I think Fulop is full of shit when it comes to this, he speaks loud and bangs his chest about stuff like this but does nothing about it. We have cops livings in different cities, which he objected to and double dipping council men/women which he also objected to. IMO when the city is not willing to pay a fair wage, you can't expect people to work a part time city job for so little and not want more for themselves and their families.

You know what the salary is before the election. By the way, people do live on $35,000 and less in JC.

I am no fan of Coleman and her reversible wigs, but no one can live off of 35k that the council seat pays, so if they don't want people moon lighting raise the salary or make it a full time gig. And the two retired cops are getting a pension with the additional 35k that's why they are mentioned.

Gajewski and Boggiano are retired, so I don't see why they are lumped in the story. That's not fair to them.
Chico pledged that he would step down from his HCIA job if elected. Did he renege? (Though alas, he may have some other problems to deal with). As for Coleman, I can't see an excuse here. Wait till your term is up if you want a county job.

I still remember Councilman Fulop attacks on the late Willie Flood. How things change when you become mayor.

Jersey City councilwoman lands county jobBy JERSEY CITY - City Councilwoman Diane Coleman scored a job with Hudson County last month acting as a coordinator for public record requests and supervising compliance with the county's living wage law. Coleman, 67, also monitors employee awareness of the county's harassment complaint policy. The Ward F council rep, Coleman makes $65,000 annually on top of her part-time council salary of $34,266. Hudson County spokesman James Kennelly said the position was not publicly advertised. It does not come with health benefits or pension credits, according to Kennelly, who said Coleman's qualifications include prior jobs managing hundreds of employees and carrying out hiring and training. Reached by phone, Coleman said she didn't have time to speak. Coleman was first elected to the council in a November 2012 special election, and was subsequently re-elected in June 2013. She is a strong ally of Mayor Steve Fulop. Read more: http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/20 ... man_lands_county_job.html
