Generally speaking, JC public schools are still playing catch-up to all of the new money moving into town. So your public options are going to be limited.

Have you considered the two charter schools: Learning Community and Ethical Community? Learning Community is ranked much higher than Ethical Community but we have neighbors who have kids in each one and are happy.

PS 27 is apparently getting much better, but otherwise most of the schools in the Heights have really low ratings on Great Schools. The best "public" elementary close to the Heights is Union City's magnet school, which is run out of Weehawken High School and not available to Heights residents, or the public elementary, Cornelia Bradford, which is likely to be difficult to get into.

My son will begin Kindergarten next year and I'm wondering if anyone here has recommendations for public or private schools, preferably in the Heights?

We've looked into Stevens Cooperative and OLC, but prices are really high ($18,000) for Stevens and I'm not reading stellar reviews for either. I also can't justify paying that kind of money for anything that's not college.

He's in an employer sponsored preschool right now but we'd like to transition him into a local program. We don't have many friends with school aged children in the neighborhood and would like some feedback. If you have suggestions about schools in other parts of JC or neighboring towns, that would also be helpful.
