2 charged in $70K heist of Jersey City check-cashing business, admit other robberies: police

Two men, including one who is charged with a Christmas Eve bank robbery in Bayonne, have been charged with the armed robbery of a check-cashing business in Downtown Jersey City, authorities say.

Most likely perpetrated by someone who works or used to work there. Tying someone up is usually done in Hollywood movies now a days, someone needed it to seem legit. And I hope the JCPD pts video of the incident out soon, not a month from now once they exhaust all other leads.

Holy shit. I was walking past that place not more than 5 minutes after that.

JERSEY CITY - Two men, one of them armed, tied up the clerk and robbed a check-cashing business in Downtown Jersey City this morning, police said.

According to a police report, the men followed the clerk as she entered Checks Cashed Etc. on Grove Street at 8:50 a.m. The men tied up the woman and had her open a safe.

According to Jersey City Public Safety spokeswoman Carly Baldwin, a "large amount" was taken from the safe, along with the clerk's iPhone 5C.

In the police report, the clerk describes the men, one in his early 20s and the other in his late 20s, wearing all black with black scarves over their faces. She said one of them, who had a thin beard and mustaches, revealed a black handgun.

Police said a woman, described as 5-foot-7 and wearing a long gray jacket and aviator style hat with a gray shoulder strap pocket book, was with the two robbers.

The robbery occurred about five blocks from City Hall, which is also on Grove Street.

a damn shame, city hall is just hop, skip, jump away. Don't they have cops just chilling on the corners in this part of town? Every time I am down there I see police officers at construction sites not too far from there.

Clerk tied up, Downtown Jersey City check-cashing business robbed at gunpoint

JERSEY CITY - An armed man robbed a check-cashing business in Downtown Jersey City this morning, the owner of the business said today.

The armed robber entered Checks Cashed Etc. on Grove Street at 8:50 a.m., tied up a woman clerk, grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash and then fled, according to police radio transmissions.

A man at the store this morning said he was the owner, but he declined to comment on the amount of money that was stolen. He confirmed the assailant showed a gun.

Jersey City police did not immediately provide details on the robbery, which occurred about five blocks from City Hall, which is also on Grove Street.
