This. I believe nearly all major credit cards (visa, amex, mastercard, etc.) will dispute a purchase for you if the merchandise was defective and the store won't take a return, as long as there is no explicit policy stating otherwise (i.e. if it was a final sale item).

There is a time limit. I'm not sure if it's set by the issuing bank or credit card issuer, i.e., Visa. It's generally 3 months for defective merchandise and such, less time for debit cards.

I usually read the washing instructions before I buy something. Some items said to wash it before wearing.

If you've paid with a credit card and are not getting any response from the retailer, check to see if you have a purchaser's protection plan through your cc company. I only use my AMEX and they've come to the rescue on several occasions with exceptional customer service. You often have a small window of time to make a complaint, so act accordingly.

I had a complaint too. It was a while ago, I purchased an almost $300 Saja dress which were ripping in the seams after just one wear...(it was not tight but just ripping at all the sewed edges) i emailed them, no reply.

I recently bought a pair of black pants from Tia's place. The first time I wore them the black dye from the pants rubbed off on my white blouse (also from Tia's, but very happy with it). The black even rubbed off on my finger nails. Tia's refused to take them back b/c I had worn them. I even showed them the ruined shirt. I can't believe they didn't have other complaints. I am stunned that the would not take back defective merchandise.
