I did it a few years ago and it is a tedious and messy process. The end result though really made my apartment look nicer. I also was only about 80% sure there was a brick wall beneath but took the shot anyways. Good luck!

If the wall is shared with a neighbor, get ready to hear more conversations in your apartment too..

I've done three walls myself and the dust and dirt is pretty unbelievable. It gets over everything. You really do need a good mallet and tools (like a good brick brush for the bits that hang on to the brick) so you don't scratch the brick as you work. You have to watch the crowbar work or you'll get some unsightly dings. If you do it yourself, purchase a good respirator mask and WEAR IT! Some of the plaster I knocked off had horsehair mixed in to it.

If I can do this - anyone can - it's really not that hard, just tedious.

The real concern is what lays beyond your plaster. If the brick underneath is painted and you were going for the old red look, that's a tough fix. If your bricks need to be repointed, that can be a pain also. It is trial and error as a poster pointed out. Just be ready for the error.

Plant? What plant equipment do you need to pull plaster off walls? A crow bar and hammer? $5 total from the dolar store.

Your greatest concern will be cleaning up.

Robin.

Your apartment?
.... so do you want to check with your landlord first?

No one knows what's really under the plaster until you start chipping away at it--unless you have photo documentation. You'd be better off doing it yourself. This is all trial and error.

I'm looking for someone who can remove plaster and lath from a wall in my apartment, so I can have an exposed brick wall.
Any recommendations?
