I have to admit that I've been having the same thoughts as the OP. I also wondered if there was a connection to the death of the individual hanging by a tree in downtown as there has been radio silence on this death as well. Every metro radio and television station was broadcasting the search for Mixson all weekend (he defends his innocence) - yet this story has no follow up. There are videos - why aren't they being released? For what it's worth, there is one commenter on NJ.com who is repeatedly insinuating that the Grove Street shooting is politically connected. The comments are consistently alluding to a cover-up. This does have the feeling of the "old days" though.

I'm sure they have some leads but didn't move in yet.
There's cameras everywhere down that area.
They are just waiting to get all the evidence together to have for court & they will get these guys soon!

I am guessing since he had just past the firefighter test and was mostly to become a firefighter, perhaps their are different charges for killing a firefighter than a typical citizen? Prosecutors are strange that way.. That's just a guess, but this murder is very fishy.

On the streets I am hearing he was a bad boy turn good boy who actually got his life together but still had some pass haters in that old life...

nj.com is not telling the whole story, its very weird like their are trying to protect some dirty little secret.

Condolences to the family and friends of the young man who was murdered late last month outside a Grove Street deli.

But, uh, does anyone care to speculate as to why no arrest yet? My belief is that the police have a SOLID description of the shooter, but maybe I haven't read the news as carefully as I should. They do have a description, right? There is a video right? Maybe the lawyers are working out a deal beforehand?
