Just walked to end of York Street - the city is installing 3 big pumps that should be done soon with 5,000 gallon / minute pumping capacity.

Hopefully this helps during high tide later.

Forecast keeps changing but hopefully any serious rainfall is spread out through the day and not concentrated in an hour like a month ago.

If we know these a flood prone streets why aren't we mitigating the problem and fixing it - and the sewers? Why can't we sue city hall for negligence and failing to act as we can for pot-holes if their inaction cause private property damage?

City Gears Up For Tropical Storm Andrea; Heavy Rains & Localized Flooding Expected Friday into Saturday Morning

The Jersey City Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (OEM), in conjunction with the Mayor?s Office, is preparing for the first named tropical storm of the 2013 season.

Tropical Storm Andrea, which made landfall in Florida today, is expected to bring three to five inches of heavy rains and localized flooding to Jersey City and Hudson County beginning tomorrow morning, Friday, 6/7/13.

Officials from the Mayor?s Office, OEM, the Police and Fire Departments, the Department of Public Works, the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority (MUA), and staff from Mayor-Elect Steven M. Fulop's office met today to review storm preparation plans. Additional personnel from all essential departments have been called into work Friday or are on standby.

Three 12-inch pumps have been placed by the MUA at the foot of York Street and three others on standby. Today, catch basins and sewers were cleared by MUA crews. Residents are asked to call the the MUA at 201-432-1150 if catch basins on their street are clogged with debris or garbage.

As of this afternoon, the JCPD and the Department of Public Works began staging barricades in flood prone areas for possible street closures during the Friday morning or evening rush hours.

OEM has approximately 20 generators to power critical municipal buildings such as City Hall, police precincts and fire stations. Four shelters are also on standby.

Read more including list of streets to avoid in case of flooding.
