An employee of a Jersey City Heights Dunkin' Donuts was locking up the store when a man thought to be armed with a gun forced him back inside and cleaned out the safe yesterday, officials said.
Officers responding to the Dunkin Donuts at 3438 Kennedy Blvd. after the 10:26 p.m. robbery spoke to the employee, who said he was attempting to close the door when a man pressed an object to his back and said he had a gun, a report says. When the robber ordered the 22-year-old to take him to the safe, he said "I can't. It's locked," but they found it had been left open by the day crew, the report says. The robber, who had a scarf wrapped around his face, took $1,200 to $1,500 and fled, the report says. The robber is described as being about 6 feet 2 inches tall, of medium build and wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, the report says. The owner of the store told police there are several security cameras on the property and he would provide the recordings to investigators, the report says.
