I don't reminisce about my time living in Dixon Mills, but this post made me do just that. The deli had this cake that was just wonderful. It was this Pistachio pound cake that they made there. MMMMMM MMMM, so good. Also a lovely couple.

I believe the insurance payment has probably taken a while to come through. I'm pretty sure they are going to fix the building and resume operations. The construction co. signs on that building are the same company that renovated the facade of the Dixon Mills deli, owned by the same couple.

I walked by this morning and saw construction signs and some sort of foil covering over the windows for the first time since the fire. Anyone have any info on what the plans are with this building?

Was the laundromat level damaged by the fire? I thought it was only the 2nd/3rd floors?

Does anyone have any updated information on Carolina's Laundromat? The ladies were so helpful and welcomed you with a smile. I never thought it as shady and there is plenty of shady around anyway! The owner also runs the Dixon Mills Deli.

They are waiting for insurance, it takes a long time. They are great people and run great businesses including the Dixon Deli on the corner of Columbus and varick. I believe one of the holdups with insurance is that its two separate claims. One being for the laundromat and the second for the residential units.

That place was kinda shady anyhow. I remember many times there were people in there selling new clothes that appeared to be "appropriated" from Newport Mall, in plain view of the management.

Was there not a fire on the second floor? There's marking on the CC-facing windows -- that, and the windows are covered in plastic.

After using rags to apply stain to floors, you have to store them in water, or they will spontaneously combust. It only takes hours for them to generate enough heat to combust, not days.
I have personal experience with this phenomenon. Its scary.
I'm glad no one was seriously injured.

Hey everyone,
There was a pretty devasating fire in the second floor apartment of the Carolina's Laundromat building the other night. If anyone knows how to get in touch with the residents can you PM me? I have some clothes and houshold stuff I can donate to get them back on their feet. It's just sitting in my storage unit anyway, might as well put the stuff to good use.

Here's the article from the JJ:
