Ianmac, I was wrong. Looks like at least one of the Brooklyn locations is also called Nha Trang:

I've been to the Sayreville place few times before they sold it. Exact same furniture and menu - just a different name slapped on it. I even recognized a couple of guys from Nha Trang waiting tables there.

Maybe the younger generation wants to take over and move things in a new direction. Wait and see, I guess.

Good move yes. Mostly agree with this post except Pathmark/Colony Square is fine during daylight hours, and there are exceptions to the public schools like McNair. If you are walking home late night, just steer clear of the bars off Newark, or spend a few bucks on a cab from Grove.

The Newark Avenue building and the adjacent parking lot would be ripe for redevelopment. Of course, it would mean Jordan's Lounge would close too.

JadedJC - heard a rumor yesterday that Nha Trang will be moving near Hamilton Park where Embankment restaurant is currently located. Thus, the Newark Ave location will be closed.

The good thing about that walk along Newark is that you have some great dinner options on your way home. Nha Trang, Bon Chon, Skinner's, etc. If I was going that way, I'd be eating at Nha Trang every other night. Awesome, inexpensive Vietnamese food.

Bummer, that stinks. I was hoping 225 Grand was somewhat less expensive than the other elevator/condo rentals in the area, but $2,200/mo. is crazy. (Especially w/o incentives.)
Regardless, sounds like you found a sweet new place. Best of luck w/ your move!

My friend lived there for 3 years without issue. The only thing is that Latin Lounge can sometimes attract a loud and difficult crowd at night that required the police to come by. I think the Lamppost can be loud as well but not as rowdy.

I've lived at 225 Grand for 2 years, when i came my 1 bd/1 bath was 1900.00, then it was increased to 2k, now they are increasing it to 2200.00 a month. Which isnt bad knowing that my neighbor pays 2450.00 for their 1 bd/1bth. But im sure once i leave my apartment will be for 2400.00 for the next tenent. PLUS you have to pay the $500.00 amenity fee. The apartment is 730sq/ft. You do smell cigarettes and other types of substances when you walk down the hall, and it seeps into your unit. Concierge is amazing. The owner of the building will not negotiate the rent with you or the amenity fee. I wanna say the building it about 30% empty.
Now im moving to a 2bd/2bth 950sq/ft for 1900.00 a month, gut renovated, huge space.

I'll echo what everyone else is saying. Take Newark Avenue when you're walking home and you should be fine. (Lots of light and there's usually other commuters walking alongside w/ you). Even better -- if you're coming home late at night just cab it. A cab ride is typically no more than $5.
If you don't mind my asking -- how do/did you like living at 225 Grand? Are the rent increases that bad?

Its probably not safe to go around saying "historic" as an adjective of "downtown" on JCList as someone is likely to make fun of you for it.

Thank You! Right now i liveat 225 Grand, that new building that opened 2 years ago. I cant afford it here anymore! But i found a bigger place and just got gut renovated for a cheaper price plus its a 2bd. So im excited, but i am nervous.

Next to I-78 on the safe side of town is Crescent Court, a new condo complex so you'll see some people walking home at night to crescent court.
During the lunch hours, you'll see kids from Ferris High School walking around and making noise. Most of the time, they are harmless but can be annoying. If you have kids, I would not send them to any public school in the area. Your nearest supermarket is PATHMark on 420 Grand St but I would avoid that supermarket and location and go to shoprite near the newport area. The area is undergoing a lot of gentrification (a good thing) so it's a good move.

Thanks! Yea thats how i plan to walk down Newark Ave, im on 2nd between Brunswick and Monmouth. I was surprised to see how some of the insides of the brownstones look like now. Completely gut renovated. Glad to know its a safe area. Any other advice?

I use to live in the area and it is extremely safe. After 12AM, be sure to walk on Newark ave to get home - newark ave is restaurant row and has a lot of lighting. In that area, there is a row of some of the only townhomes left in JC.
As long as you don't cross over I-78, you'll be safe.

I'm moving to the HIstoric Downtown of Jersey City, near 2nd and Newark Ave. I currently live on Grand st and Grove St. I wanted to know if that area is ok. I've been walking there a couple of nights already during different times to see what the area is like. It doesn't look too different to me than Grove St does, just a bit more residential.
