Thanks Neverleft. We've had a tremendous response to the donation request. We dropped off two pickup truck loads on Wednesday and will have more dropped off today.

City Hall is now asking residents to donate gift cards in lieu of clothing and items because they've already received so much!

Don't forget also that we're auctioning off two, two-week summer camp spots in our July soccer camp. The spots retail for $900 each. Right now, one spot is going for $120 dollars and the other is up to $220 dollars on Ebay. That's a huge savings if you'd like to send your child to our camps! And 100% of the proceeds benefit the children displaced by Sunday's fire.

You can read more about the auction and see links here:

EBAY AUCTION DETAILS

Thanks again to EVERYONE that has been so generous at such a time of need. JC is awesome!

To also help out with the efforts here, we've just posted two exclusive auctions on Ebay that offer two spots in our full-day summer soccer camp being held from July 2 through July 13 in downtown Jersey City.

The value of each camp spot is $900. Our opening bid is only $1.00!

The camp runs from 8:30am to 3:00pm and is a professionally coached, soccer intensive session for children interested in learning how to play soccer.

We're auctioning off two camp spots - one for a five/six year old and one for a seven to ten year old. The 7/10 camp is completely sold out this year, so we created one additional space JUST for this auction.

100% of the auction proceeds will go to help the families from this fire.

You can view the auction here:

Hi everyone:

Here's an update on our collection efforts as of this afternoon. After speaking with the Mayor's office (who really has rolled up their sleeves big time to help these families), this is an early list of the families with immediate needs. We are seeking clothing in these sizes for these children. They also need all school supplies. Gift cards to Target, etc will also be welcomed:

1. Girl, age 13, small adult shirt, size 2 pants, size 8 shoe women's

2. Girl, age 11, size 7/8 women's, size 8 shoe women's

3. Boy, age 3, size 5T

4. Boy, age 15, small men's shirt size, pants - 29 x 31

5. Girl, age 12, size 4 juniors

6. Boy, age 9, size 8 boys

7. Boy, age 1, size 2T

8. Girl, age 5, size 7 girls

We will be at 180 9th Street beginning this evening from 6:15pm to 10pm to collect any items that you can for children only (clothing in above sizes, school supplies, new toys, etc). We will also be on site Tuesday (3pm to 6pm), Thursday (3pm to 6pm and 8pm to 11pm) and Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 1pm.

Look for the large donation boxes we have set up right outside of the gym area.

Please help show these families why JC has the best and biggest hearts around!

Thanks, Coach Alex

Jersey City officials are working to coordinate efforts to help dozens of fire victims left homeless after Easter Sunday's devastating six-alarm fire that ripped through 10 row houses.
Meanwhile, construction officials and engineers try to determine which of the fire-damaged houses must be demolished.
The fire started at 4:23 a.m. and ripped through 347 to 365 Claremont Avenue, leaving 52 people, including 22 children, displaced.
City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said that the mayor's office is working to coordinate relief efforts for the 21 families who were victims of the fire.
"This is one of the worst fires our city has seen in recent years and we know there will be an outpouring from the community to support these families," Mayor Jerramiah Healy said in a statement. "Our hearts go out to those affected by this tragic fire and we want them to know that their city is here to help and assist them in any way possible."
The blaze began after an extension chord started to spark in the basement of 349 Claremont Ave. The fire traveled up the walls and into the cock-loft before traveling between the 10 houses.
A total of eight families were provided with temporary housing by the American Red Cross of Northern New Jersey, officials said.
Morrill said the mayor's office will soon release locations where residents can drop off donations, including nonperishable food items, clothing, toys, books and other items for the children and their family members.
Healy's staff members are reaching out to retailers and supermarkets in the city for donations.
Any business owner who is interested in making a donation should contact the Mayor's Action Bureau at (201) 547-4900.
The Soccer Learning Center is accepting donations of children?s clothing or supplies at the CERC gym, 180 Ninth Street in Jersey City. Boxes will be provided to drop off donations in the vestibule outside the gym area.
Hours of operation are Monday from 6:30 to 10 p.m.; Tuesday from 3 to 6:30 p.m.; Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m. and from 8 to 11 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Healy Foundation will also be providing assistance to the families.nj.comResized Image

Thanks AMC - that's great. We hold classes on Monday evenings (6:30 to 9:30pm), Tuesday and Thursday after school (3:30 to 6:30pm - then 8:30pm to 11pm for our night classes) and on Saturday and Sunday mornings (9am to 1pm).

I haven't heard back yet on specific needs and will update when I do.

Coach Alex

Approximately 22 children were displaced by this fire - and most of the houses are in total ruin. We are trying to set up a clothing and school supply drive to help the families with a downtown collection site at 180 9th Street during our soccer classes all this week.

I have been in contact with JCFD and the Red Cross and am waiting to hear back as to what the families specific needs are. I will update here when I receive any information.

In the meantime, if anyone knows of another credible donation effort going on that we could feed into, please email me at soccerlearning@aol.com.

Thanks - Coach Alex Lalaoui

Ahh yes the classic ?Mayor Whelan? type sweet shots. One by the victims, one by the exhausted firefighters, and one by an injured firefighter.

I?m surprised he didn?t don a helmet and climb a ladder like Mayor Whelan. After all there is an upcoming election.

Where are his comments in the news????? Donations to families, etc?

It figures he would show up (Healy) his sons work for the fire department, and it is election season. I have not seen him show up to much else.

I saw something on the news this morn real quick but never thought it was in JC. I wish I woulda had a chance to watch it this morn. Ill catch it on the 11 o clock news in a few.
Was it really 10 houses that were involved?
Do we have any donation things setup?
What is Mayor Healy doing about this???

A six-alarm Easter morning blaze is raging with 10 Jersey City buildings showing flames, officials said.
The spectacular fire erupted at Claremont and West Side avenues around 4:23 a.m.
"I haven?t seen anything like this in years, years," Fire Director Armando Roman said as he barked orders amid shouts and activity at the scene. "We are stressed to capacity, and a Newark firefighting task force is on its way to the fire. It is roaring, roaring."
The string of two-story, two-family buildings has been evacuated and firefighters from other Hudson County fire departments are manning Jersey City firehouses as Jersey City firefighters battle the flames.
The fire stretches from 349 Claremont toward West Side Avenue and is across the street from the Jersey City Board of Education building.
The flames raced across the common cocklofts in the attached buildings.
Roman said additional alarms are possible and firefighters from other municipalities will likely be called to the scene to battle the flames.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/20 ... y_fire_reaches_5th_a.html
