personally, i think the possibility of my cat being gutted by a raccoon is a big deal - but thats just me.

there was a big, big raccoon on my back porch on
Third Street a week or so ago, just at twilight. The cats and the coon were staring each other down. The coon slowly, and with fine dignity, lumbered off into the next yard. No big deal. No reason to call our for SWAT! The sneak-thieves around here are more dangerous than the wildlife.

I also saw a single raccoon crossing Coles St. at 9th at about 5:30 am on Monday. Not that big, but definitely dangerous to any cat and most dogs.

just a heads up for people in paulus hook - twice this week my dogs have treed 2 large adult raccoons. my dogs were larger but an adult coon could be big trouble for mostly any dog and definitely all cats. something to keep in mind when letting your dogs into the yard or walkin around the neighborhood..
