Chef Phil Burgess, he is a lead chef instructor at the French Culinary Institute in NYC and lives in downtown JC. He gives both private instruction and group lessons out of his home here in JC and can definitely work with you on knife skills, butchering and pretty much anything else you'd be interested in. What's more, he is so nice and patient and truly a great teacher. His hourly rates are reasonable and if you have a friend or two who want to join in you can whack up the cost among you. Yes ... Hudson County Community College at Journal Square does community education classes at night during the week and on weekends ... they have many cooking classes, including knife skills and basic cooking.

Looking for a place to take some basic cooking lessons in or near JC. Not looking for anything too specific or advanced just a place where I can pick up a few tips, learn to to cut veggies super fast, etc. Any recommendations?
