The privatley owned and funded ferry service on the East River didn't work out financially for the ferry owner. So somehow they get the NYC government to subsidize them (A.K.A. bailing them out). So they start this new version of East River service with government funding supporting it. Then they want to advertise this subsidized service as expanding in some manner to include stops in NJ.
Sounds like a back door way for them to later argue that NJ government should also be chipping into the subsidization. Thanks but no thanks, keep your boondoggle ferry service. It's just like the monorails they built in Shelbyville and North Haverbrook.

Just don't see the consistent demand for this route with fuel prices what they are?? Does anyone think there is enough daily demand to justify cost with fuel prices where they are?

?The East River Ferry service gives New Jersey residents the opportunity to discover parts of Brooklyn and Queens without the burden of traveling through traffic-laden tunnels or overcrowded bridges by car,? We can do that now using the PATH and the subways.

Is "Liberty Harbor" the terminal called "Paulus Hook" on the nywaterway site?
Also, it won't be $4 for people coming from NJ; we would still have to buy a ticket to get from NJ to Pier 11.

For $4 each way and only $12 unlimited all day you can now ferry from Downtown's Liberty Harbor to Wall Street - from there go to Long Island City, North and South Williamsburg, Greenpoint, and the Brooklyn Bridge Park near DUMBO.
========================================== NY Waterway adds ferries to Brooklyn and Queens from Manhattan's Wall Street/Pier 11 Published: Friday, July 01, 2011 By Jean-Pierre Mestanza The Jersey Journal WEEHAWKEN NY Waterway has expanded its ferry service to include commuters from Manhattan to various parts of northern Brooklyn. ?The East River Ferry service gives New Jersey residents the opportunity to discover parts of Brooklyn and Queens without the burden of traveling through traffic-laden tunnels or overcrowded bridges by car,? said Paul Goodman, the CEO of Billybey Ferry Company, which will run the expanded service. Billybey Ferry Company and Port Imperial Ferry Company, which operates the trans-Hudson service, are both owned by NY Waterway. The new service to Brooklyn began June 13 with $4 one-way tickets, $12 unlimited all day tickets, and $140 for an unlimited monthly pass. New York City is kicking in about $9.3 million a year to subsidize the cost as part of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg?s economic development plan to spur growth along the East River, according to a press release. The service between Brooklyn and Manhattan will run every 20 minutes during rush-hour and every half-hour during off-peak times, officials said. NY Waterway service is year-round and runs from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on weekends, the release said. Commuters can catch a ferry from Weehawken (Port Imperial terminal), Hoboken Terminal, or Jersey City (Paulus Hook, Liberty Harbor, and Port Liberte terminal) to Wall Street/Pier 11 in Manhattan. From there, riders can take the ferry to Queens (Long Island City) or to one of four stops in Brooklyn (North and South Williamsburg, Greenpoint, and Brooklyn Bridge Park near DUMBO).
