The car had a NJ license plate - it didn't look stolen. I was just surprised that they didn't seem to be able to contact the owner based on the license. It was still parked there hours later with a broken window.

At the time, nothing seemed to be stolen. There was a GPS still in the car. Glass fell out of the car when the police opened the door, so whoever broke the window probably didn't open the door. The driver side window was broken facing the street. There were a lot of kids passing by around lunchtime, or there may have been something on the drivers seat that interested an opportunist thief.

If it was my car, I'd have appreciated getting a call. Not bashing the JCPD - just recommending people leave a visible contact inside your car if you park on JC streets.

The car had no plates?

No Plates or no tags, stolen? Even if it is, they have the duty to read of the VIN.

We called in a car today on 9th and Brunswick with a smashed window on the driver side. JCPD showed up. They checked the glovebox. They didnt/couldn't look up the owner based on the vehicle license plate. They hoped to find the vehicle reg in the glovebox in order to contact the owner

To all JC resdents.

I don't suggest you leave your vehicle reg in your glovebox. But do leave your contact details in your glovebox. At least that way you might get a call before you return to your broken car window.
