School 6 students had a bit of a scare yesterday, when a teacher's assistant saw a "suspicious item" and notified authorities, who reportedly destroyed the item without incident, according to officials.

The assistant noticed a white van pull up to a blue SUV with New York license plates that was parked behind the school on Hopkins Avenue at about 11:45 a.m., according to Jersey City public schools spokeswoman Paula Christen.

A man exited the white van and opened the SUV, where the assistant saw a "computer with wires attached and cell phones attached," Christen said. The man placed an item inside the SUV, re-entered the white van and left the scene, according to Christen.

School officials immediately notified police, who suggested moving students on the Hopkins Avenue-side of the school to the other side of the building as they investigated, Christen said.

Students and faculty, who were working on a half-day schedule yesterday, were eventually dismissed at around noon, she added.

Jersey City Police spokesman Lt. Edgar Martinez confirmed there was a "bomb scare" yesterday, adding, "It turned out to be nothing."

whatever was in the vehicle was destroyed by the police. They blew the windows out of the car in the process.

Curious to what the story is that led suspicion of this vehicle initially.
