View Larger Map Jewelry, guitar, other items taken in daytime break-in at home of Ward B candidate Esther Wintner Tuesday, November 02, 2010 Jersey City police are investigating a break-in yesterday at a City Council candidate's home. Esther Wintner, one of six candidates running for the unexpired Ward B seat today, said her jewelry, her son's guitar and a Kindle, an electronic reading device, were stolen from her home yesterday morning. Wintner, a Bentley Avenue resident, said she and her husband were out at the time of the break-in and her children were at school. When her children arrived home, they noticed their rooms had been rummaged through, Wintner said, adding that they immediately called police. She said a window was pried open and she believes that's how the person or persons entered her home. Winter is running against Jersey City Councilman David Donnelly, Isaiah Gadsden, Raymond Skop, Earlin Thomas and Diane Verlingo to fill the unexpired term of Phil Kenny, who resigned last year after pleading guilty to federal corruption charges. This experience has 2 benefits.
1. It is a great reality check for Esther to the crime problem we have in the city 2. It prevents Esther singing 'kumbaya' without her son's guitar in HP, as part of her campaign strategy Is this crime campaign-related ? I think not! More like a drug related campaign by the perp..... some quick items to be pawned off.

Jersey City Police are investigating a break in at a City Council candidate?s home earlier today. Esther Wintner, one of six candidates running for the unexpired Ward B seat tomorrow, said her jewelry, her son?s guitar and a Kindle, an electronic reading device, were stolen from her home sometime this morning. She was still going through things to determine if anything else had been stolen. Wintner said she and her husband were out at the time of the break-in and her children were at school. When her children arrived home, they noticed their rooms had been rummaged through, Wintner said, adding that they immediately called police. She said a window was pried open and she believes that?s how the person or persons entered her home. Wintner would not say whether she thought it was campaign-related. She is running against City Councilman David Donnelly, Isaiah Gadsden, Raymond Skop, Earlin Thomas and Diane Verlingo to finish the unexpired term of Phil Kenny who resigned last year after pleading guilty to federal corruption charges.
