View Larger Map Jersey City Heights man arrested in paintball shooting spree Tuesday, November 02, 2010 By BRETT WILSHE JOURNAL STAFF WRITER Police charged a Jersey City man early Sunday with committing a series of drive-by paintball shootings that left one woman injured above her left eye, officials said. Edwin Montalvo, 29, of Lincoln Street, was charged with aggravated assault, reports said. Montalvo was driving his beige Honda Accord with three unidentified males on New York Avenue when someone from inside the car opened fire on a woman smoking a cigarette on her porch with her sister at 1:10 a.m., reports said. The victim ducked for cover but was struck above the left eye with a paintball, leaving a half-inch laceration, reports said, noting the victim was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center and treated for the injury. Police later received a call that the group had opened fire on a crowd of people outside the Laguna Lounge on Summit Avenue. A witness at the scene was able to describe the vehicle and provide a partial license plate number, reports said. Police units searched the area and found Montalvo and his car parked outside the Ringside Bar on Tonnelle Avenue, reports said. Officers found two black paintball guns in the back seat and paintball pellets that matched the ones found at the scene of the shootings, reports said.

View Larger Map Woman shot with paintball pellet A 28-year-old Jersey City woman was sitting on the stoop of her New York Avenue home smoking a cigarette early yesterday when she was shot with a paintball pellet, reports said. The victim was sitting with her sister when at about 1:10 a.m. a vehicle with four males inside passed by the house located near Franklin Street, reports said. The victim said someone from inside the car started shooting paintball pellets and she and her sister ducked for cover, reports said. The victim was struck by a pellet just above her left eye and suffered a half-inch laceration, reports said. She was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center for treatment. The car fled south on New York Avenue and anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Jersey City police tipline at (201) 547-JAIL.
