Why does this idiot have a loaded gun locked in a safe? If you have time to unlock the safe, then you have time to load it. And if you have these kind of valuables at home why wouldn't you do a better job securing your windows?
The idea is to have the gun loaded and ready when you are home, and in the safe when you go out. That way you don't have to keep loading and unloading the gun.

Considering that he was gone for six days, they had plenty of time to remove it, maybe with an angle grinder.

this was obviously done by someone who knew he had a safe and probably even knew the code. how does a safe bolted to the floor get stolen anyway?

View Larger Map Returns to find safe removed More than $15,000 worth of diamond jewelry and electronics, as well as a loaded handgun, were stolen from a Leonard Street home over the Fourth of July holiday, according to Jersey City police. A 59-year-old resident said he returned home from a six-day trip Tuesday to find the air conditioner removed from his bedroom window and sitting on an outside deck, reports said. Inside, he found that his safe, which had been bolted to the floor in a closet, had been taken, reports said. The victim told police he had 12 diamond rings and two diamond necklaces worth $15,000, as well as miscellaneous papers and a loaded .44-caliber handgun inside the safe. A laptop computer, night vision scope, and a camera were also stolen from the residence. AMY SARA CLARK
