So are gang bangers really known to be the force behind malware?

"Run your pockets .... Give me what you got ... Take this malware..."

Come on... change the title of this thread.

This story probably tells us we have safe high-end and institutional users and insufficient networks/ prices for residential users. In this town, lots of folks aren't even computerized or networked b/c of cost.

They collect statistical data of attacks from customers of their software. They check those attacking IPs back to cities and divide that with population. The number of actual computers in the city does not matter unless those computers are infected and therefore actively attacking.

What that has to do with gangs or failing schools? Nothing.

I posted that article on Facebook and a friend of mine responded with this:

It would be interesting to know how they measured such a thing, but at first glance it looks like the cities on top have higher concentration of colleges; hives of Windows computer users.

My first guess is all the financial back office operations in JC skew the results. Security is very high for the majority of the high rises downtown, each of those buildings probably has over a thousand PC's. Add up all the CPUs in the skyscrapers downtown and it may skew the results for the general pop of JC. Or maybe the data is bogus all together...

That's because the JC school system failed them.

"...Atlanta, Georgia came out on top. Birmingham AL, Denver CO, Chesapeake VA, and Madison WI round out the top five worst cities. On the other end of the spectrum, Jersey City, NJ has the lowest per capita malware infection rate, followed by Santa Ana CA, Detroit MI, Boise ID, and Memphis TN. So, is there something special about Jersey City, NJ that makes it impervious to malware attack? Is there something insidious about Atlanta, GA that invites malicious software infections? Or is it purely random chance?"
