The Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy is proud to announce its Tenth Annual Preservation Award winners:
J. OWEN GRUNDY HISTORY AWARD To Bob Leach, Director of the Jersey City Historical Project for his contribution to the oral history tradition of Jersey City. JERSEY CITY LEGEND AWARD To local author and historian Dr. Barbara B. Petrick, Ph.D. EXCELLENCE IN PRESERVATION To the Jersey City Free Public Library for the restoration of the Greenville Branch of the Public Library. To Robert Martin & Co, developers of Dixon Mills for their restoration of the Dixon Ticonderoga Furnace House. To Jean Louie Danis & Zorana Danis, owners of 352-354 Arlington Avenue for the restoration of their home. PRESERVATION INITIATIVE AWARD To the Jersey City Housing Authority for the creation of sensitively designed federally funded housing throughout Jersey City. THEODORE CONRAD AWARD To Rob Crow and the Village Neighborhood Association (VNA) for their spirited grassroots efforts to preserve the cultural and architectural heritage of the Italian Village district of Downtown Jersey City. The ceremony honoring the winners will take place this Thursday, May 27th. The evening will begin at 6:00 PM at the landmark Loew?s Jersey Theater in Journal Square. The cost is $25.00. Tickets may be purchased at the Loew?s Jersey on the day of the event. A buffet dinner featuring fare from several local restaurants including Liberty House, Komagashi, Parmigiana House & Monteleone?s Bakery will be served. The Larry Banks Jazz Ensemble will provide entertainment. A tour of the historic Loews Jersey Theatre will follow the ceremony.
