Yesterday, I walked north on Bergen, crossed Sip and had to navigate an icy, slushy sidewalk with no clear path on the east side of Bergen through to the fountain. Walking in the street is not a safe option there!

Snow Removal Ordinance

Muncipal Code #'s 222-1,2,3

Every building owner must shovel a path 8 hours after the last flake falls or risk getting a $102 ticket in the mail by either the Jersey City N.I.D., J.C.I.A., or the Housing Code Authority.

I've been a resident of Jersey City for years and I have come to dread it when it snows. Every year I find myself calling/sending messages to the Mayor's office asking them to shovel and de-ice the sidewalks but to no avail. Residents should not have to walk on Bergen Avenue or Kennedy because the sidewalks are just too icy. The private businesses are fairly good about shoveling, it's the public sidewalks (for example, the sidewalks headed to the JSQ Path) that pose the most danger.

With another storm possibly coming this week, I hope you'll take the time to call Mayor Healy and make your voice heard regardless of whether you live in the JSQ area or downtown, we shouldn't have to risk getting hit by a car just because they won't shovel our sidewalks.
