years ago my car was stolen and I had to pay $2 for the report and around $200 to get it out of the impound.

Just a legal way to separate you from your change. You were a crime victim and the money confiscated from drug dealers and other baddies should cover these costs. The cops use such money to buy equipment etc, and use vehicles taken for undercover work. It should'nt cost us a dime.

A few weeks ago my car was hit while parked over night. When I called the police the next morning, an officer came and wrote up a report. He handed me a slip of paper and said I could pick my report in 5 business days. I went to pick up this report today and had to pay for it. Now it was only $.75, but I could not believe they actually ask victims of a crime to pay for a report. Does anyone know why people have to pay for these reports?
