That is the google map of the turn (corect me if I'm wrong). If you check the street view it looks to me like there is a no turn on red sign there on the corner. I bet you have a good chance at pleading it down to just a fine.

Go fight the ticket. Plead Not Guilty, and don't trade down to a lesser offense. There is about a 90% chance that the officer doesn't show up, and the ticket will be dismissed for lack of prosecution.
Your other alternative is to go back and make sure there is a sign posted. If there isn't, take a picture to prove it and there is your evidence.

I did a similar thing in Hoboken. Clean driving record and I was busy thinking about something else and made a no turn on red after coming to a safe and full stop and then slowly pulling out.
I debated getting a lawyer for about $750 to argue down the points, but in the end took my chances on doing it myself. I know this was Hoboken, but my sense is that most traffic courts are similar. When I got to court extremely nervous and not sure what language to use, the prosecutor called my name and then went over my options, one being a plead down to no points with a fine. The fine ended up being $420 (penalty, court fees, etc...), but since the last time I got a moving violation was 18 years ago, I figure it was not that much in the long run. My driver's insurance was fine with it and my rate did not go up. I have to say I was really worried about the fact that I was guilty, so why the heck was I there in the court house, but they were kind and recognize that you make a mistake every once in awhile and that given your record and that it was not careless driving, they work with you.

It says "Improper Turn (no turn on red posted)". 39:4-1159 (at least that's what the chicken scratch looks like).

Were you cited for running a red light or failing to come to a full stop before making a right on a red?

No, it was actually coming FROM the direction of 1&9. In other words, from Tonnelle Avenue, I made a right turn onto Kennedy Boulevard, to head southbound on Kennedy. Near the VIP Diner.

So I got a ticket last night on Kennedy Blvd. I turned on red, on the corner of Tonnelle and Kennedy. I didn't see the no turn on red sign there. By any chance is the no turn on red sign there new? I used to drive that way every day...and never noticed it. Weird.
Anyway, it's a 3 point ticket apparently. Has anybody had any luck fighting a traffic ticket at the Summit Avenue Courthouse? My driving record is clean, and this was an honest mistake...I'm hoping I can get the points wiped out, even if I have to pay a higher fine?
