Shooting in Ferris Triangle Park in Jersey City
Cops: 3 teen victims not cooperating

Friday, March 27, 2009
By KEN THORBOURNE
JOURNAL STAFF WRITER

Frustrating investigators with their silence, three teens suffered non-life threatening gunshot wounds yesterday when a shoot-out erupted at Ferris Triangle Park in the Greenville area of Jersey City shortly before 5 p.m., officials said.

A 15-year-old girl shot in the stomach underwent surgery at the Jersey City Medical Center and was in stable condition last night, Police Lt. Edgar Martinez said.

Two 17-year-old boys were also shot - one in the right leg, the other in both legs, Martinez said. They were both treated and released from the hospital, he said.

All three teens have refused to cooperate with investigators, Martinez said. Several spent shells were found in and around the park, located near Danforth Avenue and Old Bergen Road.

"This is not a random act of violence. This shooting exposes the community to extreme danger," Martinez said.

Police Chief Tom Comey said he believed these "individuals know who shot them and why they were shot."

The three teens were not found with any weapons and were not charged with any crimes.

Despite their non-cooperation, police brass intend to find the persons who shot them.

"We have cops out knocking on every door ... because this kind of shooting puts the general population at risk," said Police Director Sam Jefferson.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 201-547-JAIL.
