Gun charges hold suspect after 'threat'
Thursday, March 12, 2009 A Jersey City man who threatened a man at gunpoint to collect a debt was arrested hours later with two guns when cops saw him driving his minivan erratically early yesterday morning, police reports said. Rashad Abdurraafi, 57, of Palisade Avenue, was charged with possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, possession when prohibited because of an earlier firearm conviction, and aggravated assault, police reports said. A 23-year-old Jersey City man told cops he was standing at Oak Street and Martin Luther King Drive at 11:54 p.m. Tuesday when a man inside a white minivan pointed a gun at him and said he owed him money, police said. The victim told police said he thinks the incident stems from money owed by his girlfriend. Yesterday morning at 4:04 a.m., cops patrolling on Fremont Street said they saw a white minivan swerve and then mount the sidewalk. Police stopped the minivan at Florence Street and Cornelison Avenue and noticed a gun inside, reports said. CHARLES HACK
